The British curriculum is noted for its breadth of study, often teaching subjects which are not normally taught in other countries. As such, all students (regardless of their ability) will study the following four core areas of the curriculum
Science, Technology and Mathematics
French, Arabic and Spanish
Geography, History and Global Perspectives
This means students will study the following subjects during the academic year: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Arabic or Spanish, History, Geography, Computer Science, Robotics, Art, Music, PE and PSHE.
On average a BISC student will undertake 1,100 hours of guided tuition over the academic year – this is compared to 950 hours in the UK.
As we don’t provide academic tuition in certain subjects (e.g. Religious Education / Home Economics) this means we can provide a greater focus on the core subject areas and Languages.
Subject | UK requirement | BISC Actual | Difference |
---|---|---|---|
English Language | 114 guided hours | 185 guided hours | +71 |
Mathematics | 114 guided hours | 185 guided hours | +71 |
Science | 114 guided hours | 148 guided hours | +34 |
Languages | 76 guided hours | 148 guided hours | +72 |
Students will sit a formal internal assessment for all subjects (excluding PHSCE and PE) every 5 to 6 weeks, the results of which are then published in their ½ termly report.
Furthermore, all students will sit their end-of-year examinations in the month of June. This assessment will encompass all the different topics taught throughout the year and will provide us with the necessary information on the progression of your child.
*This does not include our French or Arabic teachers who are Moroccan nationals.
